Integrated Massage Therapies
Our therapists use techniques from
Swedish massage and other modalities to customize treatments based
on the client’s needs. These can range from gentle, relaxing
techniques to specific, deep tissue work. Light, moderate or deep
pressure can be used, depending on the client’s request. The
therapist works with the client to optimize therapeutic results.
The treatment consists of Oluli and Oluea, a Hawaiian
style of bodywork that is flowing and soothing. Oluli, meaning “flowing
and waving,” ignites the life force. Oluea, meaning “calmness
and relief,” harmonizes body, mind and spirit. The basic strokes
are applied with the therapist’s forearms, elbows and hands,
and pressure is applied within the client’s tolerance. Hawaiian
massage promotes healing, stress reduction and an overall feeling
of well-being.
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique that works on reflex points on the feet, based on the premise that
these points correspond to different parts of the body. By stimulating the points, reflexology encourages
positive changes throughout the body. Reflexology can be received on a massage table or a special reflexology
chair. Clients remain fully-clothed, with their feet bare. Reflexology can also be incorporated into a massage
treatment.
NMT is a massage specialty that combines principles of Western science and bodywork to achieve the goals of
relieving soft-tissue pain and dysfunction. Utilizing the laws of physiology and biomechanics along with a variety of deep
tissue massage techniques, the therapist develops a treatment plan that will treat the root cause of your pain problem, rather
than just its effects.
Extremely effective for relieving tight and sore
muscles. During a massage, the therapist uses hot (and sometimes
cold) stones to facilitate relaxing your muscle tissue.
Recommended for dry skin or if you need exfoliation.
A salt rub is followed by herbal and essential oil application,
and treatments are either vigorous, balancing or sedating. Your
therapist can help decide which one is right for you.
A deep-heating treatment in which hot wax is carefully
applied to specific muscle groups. The deeply penetrating heat helps
relieve pain from arthritis, joint problems, and/or chronic muscle
tension.
A chair specially designed for comfort and ease of treatment is used by the client as the therapist
performs massage and other bodywork techniques, without the use of oils or lotions. Clients remain fully clothed. Treatments
using the chair are available either in our office or out on locations.
Asian Bodywork Therapies
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork, based on ancient Chinese medicine. According to Asian
medicine, the body's energy, or qi, moves along specific pathways (meridians or channels) around the body. The qi can become
blocked or deficient in certain areas, resulting in pain, discomfort or other problems. The therapist uses various shiatsu
techniques such as hand and finger pressure, gentle stretches and joint mobilizations, within the client's tolerance, to correct
imbalances in qi and increase body and mind awareness. Shiatsu can be performed on a futon on the floor or on a massage table,
without oils or lotions. The client wears loose-fitting clothes.
This half hour treatment is designed to loosen and lengthen tight muscles. The therapist works
within the client's tolerance for optimum results. Zen stretching is performed on a futon on the floor, or on a massage
table, without oils or lotions. The client wears loose-fitting clothes.
For clients who are uncomfortable removing their clothes for a massage treatment, or who cannot get
down on the floor to receive a shiatsu or Thai massage treatment on a futon, Ten Zo is the answer. Ten Zo is a treatment
given to a fully-clothed client on a massage table. It involves Western concepts such as knowledge of anatomy and the
ability to palpate muscle tension, and kneading, elbow and forearm techniques from massage therapy. Eastern concepts of
sensing qi are incorporated along with palming, thumbing and range of motion techniques for the hips, shoulders and neck
from shiatsu. To elongate muscles, stretches for the arms, legs and back from Thai massage complete the treatment.
An Asian bodywork therapy, Thai massage includes the application of pressure and stretches to loosen tight
areas and give an overall feeling of well-being. It's performed on a futon on the floor without the use of oils or lotion.
The client wears loose-fitting clothes. The traditional 2 hour treatment is available, as well as modified 1 ½ hour and 1 hour treatments.
Energy Therapies
Healing Touch is energy therapy, endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association, which supports
healing on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. The practitioner assesses for energetic disturbances and selects
appropriate techniques to clear, integrate and energize the human energy field (aura) and balance the energy centers (chakras).
Light touch of the client's body and surrounding human energy field are used. Healing Touch facilitates overall wellness
including pain management, relaxation, stress reduction, healing relationships with self and others, and relief from depression,
anxiety, and grief. Clients are offered suggestions for creating and maintaining balance in their energy field. Healing Touch
is performed on a massage table with the client fully clothed (except shoes).
Reiki is a technique of channeling a powerful healing energy that unlocks the inner flow of vital energy
within the client. Reiki restores, normalizes, balances, and aligns the energy centers (chakras) of the body. This can result
in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual transformation. The client remains fully clothed on a massage table, and the
therapist either places his or her hands lightly on the client's body or a few inches above.
CranioSacral Therapies is a gentle healing art
that is used to facilitate the release of chronic and acute patterns
of trauma and stress. There is a tidal fluid system within the body
called cerebrospinal fluid. When traumatized, whether mentally,
physically or emotionally, this fluid will not flow freely. CranioSacral
Therapy can release the blockage and allow the fluid to flow freely.
People will come away with a new awareness of their mind, body and
spirit as well as a new beginning.
