Orthopedic massage is an advanced form of Medical massage. Several modalities are considered and taught as part of an overall medical approach but orthopedic is a self-contained form of medical massage designed to evaluate and treat pain conditions. The therapist uses evaluation skills combined with soft tissue techniques to determine where and how to treat to reduce pain and return the musculoskeletal system to normal pain free function. Medical massage can be thought of in much the same way but is more likely to be treating something diagnosed by a doctor. Medical Massage is still in the process of defining itself but it helps many people.
